Green Home Experts has served public and municipal customers for over 10 years. We carry our experience, best practices, and dedication to each customer and each program. In 2011, the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance administered a program called  Savings Through Efficient Products (STEP). Green Home Experts was the exclusive product distribution partner for STEP and worked closely with MEEA to make it a success.  Qualified public facilities received free energy saving products and a suite of materials and incentives to make deeper energy retrofits possible. STEP successfully broke down barriers that public facilities face when navigating the process of an energy efficiency retrofit by providing clear information, top-notch technical assistance, and flexibility. Buildings include police and fire departments, recreation centers, libraries, schools, correctional facilities, and more. For five years, STEP offered qualified public facilities throughout all of Illinois high quality, energy saving products, including lights, exit signs, aerators, kitchen pre-rinse nozzles, occupancy sensors, vending machine controls, and more.

In 2019 Itron called on us to assist with another program that served municipal customers. This time, instead of product distribution, GHE assisted by providing field technicians to gather data on energy usage in buildings such as public schools, village halls, and public works garages. This study is a comprehensive end-use research, market penetration, and potential study of its residential, commercial, and industrial customer segments. We provided qualified, locally-based field engineers to conduct the on-site primary data collection surveys at commercial customer sites. The final report, which includes key findings, is available here: https://ilsag.s3.amazonaws.com/ComEd_Baseline_Study_Report_Final_Aug-2020.pdf.

Because of our experience and expertise in municipal program work, Green Home Experts became a distributor for the ComEd Public Buildings in Distressed Communities program in 2020. Implemented by the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center, PBDC helped income eligible communities to reduce energy and operating costs through free self install products. Despite all the challenges of that year, GHE helped over 30 municipal buildings make much-needed lighting upgrades at no cost. We are proud to help municipal facilities undertake much-needed improvements that make those buildings safer, better to work in, and more energy efficient. As a result of our work in the PBDC program, Green Home Experts received the 2020 EESP Network Community Champion Award from ComEd. Learn more here: https://ghexperts.com/2021/03/17/eespaward/.
